Food resources and websites

People love to eat. That's the fact :D. But when do you go when what you can do is only surfing in front of computer and you are hungry. It looks like suffering our stomach when we see the food website while we need to eat. But, let see the good things. You can plan what you are going to eat for dinner or also from breakfast. But, where do we go on the web? what is the best resources for the food website. And also which are websites that provide a simple and lean design that makes our hunger of food can be pushed a bit. Let's review websites about food from the technological perspective because this is a tech blog and let review also the content from the hunger perspective

This is a really search engine for food. It's quite impressive when you look to the result they provide. They include information about the product that related to the keyword search. An d also they provide information about the similar categories. I search for "cheese". So, can you imagine, for every number of the result you are given alternative to the cheese-related-product and also the similar category.

This one has unlimited source of content. Why? Because it's simply aggregating food website from all the world. Well, you have to submit your blog/website to be able to be published in Foodie Blogroll. So, with aggregator concept, the content would be coming from all over the world. But, it might not be the good place if you only want to search a very specific content because you have to search and browse to the blog to see what you want.

If you want to find the quickest way to know the latest news from several popular food websites in the world such as epicutious, chow, food section of the ny times then this place is definitely for you. They provide, from the rss I believe, the latest articles from websites that is believed to be popular in terms of user reach

You know digg.com, right? It's user generated content. Well, it's aggregate news website. Appereantly, there is a popular category for food and drink. However, you will not find a lot of recipe in here. But, you will find a lot of resources of food-related topics here such as health, trend, company, etc.

Believe me, don't go here when you are hungry :D. What makes this website different is they provide many photos of foods. So, this is the right place if you want to see food pictures as your first priority.

I don't know whether tastes potting and food gawker share the sam designer. Because the design is very similar to that what food Gawker has. So, if you want to see pictures then go in here and back to food gawker and back to here again and back to there again until you visualize what you want for dinner.

Now 've found the third website that mainly focuses on the picture. But, the difference is that this website provide more information about the food when they display the picture on the home page.

Another recipe-related search engine. But, it has focuses for the ingridient. So, if you search something, then the result would be list of recipes. In each recipes appeared in the search result, they also provide information of the ingriedients of that recipe. So, it is a good place if you don't know what you want to cook yet you have some ingridients in you refrigerator.

This is the heaven of the video telling user about food. So, if you want to know how to cook something then go here because they have tutorial on video!

Well, it has the same concept with digg.com, an food related content aggregator. But, the purpose of the website is only for food so they have more food-related feature than digg.com

This is a food community website while user can post an article in here. Similar to chow.com, they also have feature article, expert user (mentor) and forum. If you want to see how user interacts more in a food website , this is the place

This is also similar to Bake Space. What makes them different is that they categorize content in such structures than what the bake space has eventhough it is not eye-catching for user the first time they go here.

This is interesting. While there are a food community websites I have mentioned, this website take it further. They make their website look like more to a social network website than a community website. It's not a pure social network website so I will call this website as social networking community website.

14. Chow

In my personal opinion, this is the best community website for food. It has a lot of categorized content there, they have constantly expert user who shares their secret, they have video for tutorial, and they provide nice pictures for food, and also forum. However, they suffer the problem of every community website which is if you are not used to go to the community website, then you can be confused because there are many kind of information they offer in the home page

15. Yelp

This is a review website. So it's not all about recipe website. Because they focus on point of interest and event instead of recipes itself.

Well, it is obvious from their name, they focus on the recipes. They divide the content based on the categories and they make the existence of the user in such big way because the content that appears in the home page is about the review/photo of the day/week from user, and the latest input from user. Every content would be related to the recipe period! Anything. If you click to the "holiday" section then you will see what recipe that is associated to the holiday. Althought sometimes it's not quite accurate because they define "Ramadan" as a holiday.

For me, it is the most beautiful community website in food. They have a nice design but then it sacrifies the content that is provided in the home page. It makes user have to surf more if they want to find what they want. Well, sometimes you have to choose and they choose to have a nice design more than the content.

18. Rouxbe

Another website presenting video. Most of it is for tutorial. Well, they claim to be The world’s largest collection of online culinary classes to help you learn to cook. So, it is about tutorial-about-making-food website than the recipe or food website itself

They focus on the search engine about food and more. So, when I say more , it means they can search more than food and recipe. They also provide the search for the technique and tools. Nice place if you want to know more than food but still related to food

Friends and eat. So they focus on eating experience and then how people relate each other based on their eating experience. Nice concept! So, it is a social networking community food-related website :D.

This is a community website. Well, somehow I lost apetite for the community website in the moment because I have more interest to the social networking community food-related website. Well, to be fair, they provide search for recipe. They provide information about how user writes articles, who is the users that has popular recipe, the gender of user (I still think this is a sensitive idea)

This is a heavily not-user-contribution website because they provide all the content. The good news is when they decide to provide the content by themself, it means what they publish must be great because they should have people who is researching about the content before they can start sharing valuable information in the web.
